NorthEast United FC has signed the services of midfielder Emil Benny ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the club announced on the social handle on Saturday. Benny becomes the team’s second recruitment of the ongoing offseason after they signed Jithin MS last week.
Benny also makes a move from I-league champions Gokulam Kerala FC. The midfielder won the previous two seasons of the I-League with the club and played a key role in the success of the team.
He scored four goals in 32 matches for Gokulam Kerala FC and also played in the AFC Cup.
“We have been keeping an eye on Emil for the last two seasons in the I-League, where he was one of the emerging players of the league.
“He is a phenomenal talent with the potential to become a member of the national squad in the upcoming seasons. We have high hopes on him,” Ohad Efrat, NorthEast United FC’s Technical Director said after the new signing.
Meanwhile, Emil Benny will be determined to prove his mettle and come up with a fine performance for the Highlanders in the upcoming season. The 21-year-old youngster has shown the right promise and he is going to hold the key in the midfield for the club.
Benny must have a good understanding with Jithin MS as both of them played for Gokulam Kerala FC in the I-league and they will look to carry the same form in the Hero ISL.
Meanwhile, NorthEast United FC had a disappointing previous season in the tournament as they could only manage three wins in 20 league stage matches.
They finished at 10th place after only bagging 14 points and the club will be determined to turn the tables in the ninth edition of the Hero ISL. Thus, the Highlanders will be determined to turn the tables in the upcoming season of the tournament.
