NorthEast United is set to complete the signing of Spanish midfielder Jon Gaztanga as per the latest reports. Gaztanaga will become the second overseas signing of the Highlanders. NorthEast United had earlier completed the signing of Danish International Michael Jakobsen.
“NorthEast United are set to complete the signing of Jon Gaztanaga on a one-year deal. The Spaniard is expected to land in Guwahati to team up with the rest of the squad very soon,” a source close to developments told Khel Now.
The Spaniard started his professional career with the B team of Real Sociedad. He played 115 matches for the B team and netted three goals before making to the first team.
Jon played eight matches in the LA Liga for Real Sociedad, including a match in the UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, NorthEast has retained players like Rochharzela, Danmawia Ralte, Gani Nigam, Imran Khan, Mohammed Irshad, Pragyan Gogoi, Gurjinder Kumar, Provat Lakra, Joe Zohera, Mashoor Shareef, Tondonba Singh. Goalkeepers Mirshad Michu and Nikhil Deka, Emmanuel, and Pragyan Medhi have also extended their respective contracts.
Recently, NorthEast United FC has roped in midfielders like Jithin MS and Emil Benny from I-League champions Gokulam Kerala FC. Furthermore, they have signed the services of goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.
On the other hand, NorthEast United FC had a disappointing previous season in the tournament as they could only manage three wins in 20 league stage matches.
They finished at 10th place after only bagging 14 points and the club will be determined to turn the tables in the ninth edition of the Hero ISL. Thus, the Highlanders will be determined to turn the tables in the upcoming season of the tournament.
