Chennaiyin FC striker Rahim Ali has extended his stay with Chennaiyin FC until the end of the 2024 season, the club announced on Tuesday. The youngster had played 18 matches for Chennaiyin FC in the previous season in which he scored two goals and also provided two assists.
However, the youngster picked up a severe injury and had to miss the crucial matches of the last edition. Ali is looking forward to giving his best in the upcoming season and he wants to embrace the challenges that lay ahead for him.
The youngster is delighted to sign a new contract with Marina Machans. Overall, Ali has played in 40 matches for Chennaiyin FC during his three-year tenure in which he has scored four goals and provided two assists. Furthermore, he has played 31 matches for I-league outfit Indian Arrows FC.
Rahim Ali said, “I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Chennaiyin FC. There was never a doubt in my mind. I’m not going anywhere.”
The 22-year-old is also part of the Blue Tigers squad and has made six appearances for the national team after making his debut in 2021.
Ali was part of the squad which won the SAFF championship in 2021. However, he had to miss the three matches of the AFC Asia Cup qualifiers against Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Hong Kong due to injury.
“Over the years Rahim molded himself into one of the most exciting young talents in the country. Valuable experience with the Indian national team and youth on his side, his extension is a huge positive for our team,” co-owner Vita Dani said after the extension of the 22-year-old’s contract.
Rahim Ali will join Chennaiyin FC in mid-August for the preseason.
