ISL 2023-24: Excellent effort from the group, says Mumbai City FC’s Petr Kratky after win against Mohun Bagan Super Giant

Mumbai City FC Petr Kratky was delighted after a 2-1 win against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Indian Super League at the Mumbai Football Arena on Wednesday. Jason Cummings put the visitors in front in the 25th minute as he scored a fine goal.

However, the Islanders were able bounce back as Greg Stewart equalized at the stroke of half-time. Bipin Singh Thounaojam then found the back of the net in the 73rd minute to put his team in front.

The home team had 51.7% possession and took three shots on target. Mumbai gave the reigning champions their first loss of the season.

“It was an excellent effort from the group,” Kratky stated in the post-match press conference.

“They dug deep in the game. We are proud of what they (players) did. They had to be calm and be better with and without the ball which they did very well,” he added.

Meanwhile, with this win, Mumbai City FC jumped to third place in the points table with 19 points after nine matches. Thus, the Islanders will look to continue the good show in the upcoming games.

Kratky said that there are many players who are waiting in the wings to get their chances.

“The people who are waiting for their chance will get the chance,” Kratky said.

“We have a strong group of players and it will be a good chance for them,” he added.

On the other hand, Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Juan Ferrando was delighted that his team was able to put up a fight even with nine men.

“For me, the most important (thing) is when we played with nine players, the team tried to fight, we tried to change. We had some chances, with nine players on the field, (which is) perfect. This is the most important and this is the only positive thing today,” stated Ferrando in the post-match press conference.

Mumbai City FC will next take on Chennaiyin FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on December 28.
