East Bengal FC’s head coach Carles Cuadrat was delighted with the effort of his players after a goalless draw against Punjab FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday.
In fact, the Red and Gold brigade had 58% possession but unfortunately, they could only take a single shot on target. Punjab FC’s defense was right on the money and they were able to keep the home team at bay to share the spoils. Cuadrat said his team showed the fight from the first minute to the last.
“I am happy with the effort of my players. We showed that we are not overconfident,” Cuadrat stated in the post-match press conference.
“We know that we have to fight a lot for the three points and we did that from the first to the last minute,” he further said.
“However, the lack of a final pass made it a very even match. Any team could (have) won,” he added.
The Spaniard acknowledged that the Shers were brilliant in their defensive game but felt his team was better on the attacking line.
“Today they were playing a good defensive game. They were very good in possession,” Cuadrat said.
“However if you see the numbers at the end of the match, we were the team with the most attacks and the most arrivals in the box,” he added.
Cuadrat remained positive despite dropping points against Punjab FC and wants his players to keep working hard to get the desired results.
“In the end, we got a clean sheet and extended our unbeaten run to three games. We have to look to the positives and work hard,” he said.
East Bengal FC will next take on Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on 16th December.
