ISL 2023-24: The atmosphere that our fans create is very important for us – Bengaluru FC’s Simon Grayson

Bengaluru FC’s head coach Simon Grayson has said their fans play an important role for them in the ongoing Indian Super League. The Blues haven’t got off to a good start in the ongoing season, losing both of their two matches.

Bengaluru FC suffered a 2-1 loss against Kerala Blasters FC in the opening match of the season and then were beaten by defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant by 1-0.

Simon Grayson’s team will play their first home game of the season at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru against East Bengal FC on Wednesday and they will look for their first win of the season while playing on home turf.

“When the fixtures came out, we were desperate for a home game pretty quickly. We know how important this place is for the fans and for us as well. We do bounce off each other. The atmosphere they create is really important for us,” Grayson stated in the pre-match press conference.

Bengaluru FC had made it to the finals of ISL and Super Cup but could not cross the last hurdle in the previous season. The Englishman added they will look to get back to winning ways against Red and Gold Brigade.

“Since the last time we’ve played here, we’ve lost two finals. The national team has been here and won. Lots of positive games in Bengaluru over the last few months and we hope to get back to winning ways on Wednesday,” said the head coach.

Grayson shared a crucial update for the team, revealing skipper Sunil Chhetri and Rohit Danu have joined the team.

“Sunil (Chhetri) is back and so is Rohit Danu, and it is important to have them back. Great to have them back in the attack where we have been lacking a bit. The others have been finding their game time. You lack in a bit of competition for places, but not anymore with their return, and I’m delighted to have them back,” Grayson stated.

Grayson revealed how Chhetri’s arrival has uplifted the morale of the whole team ahead of their third match of the season.

“Sunil trained with us on Sunday, Monday, and today as well. He’s trying to get back into the swing of things and wants to be among the set of players and to be around them. He has made an impact within training with his play and vocally as well,” he added.
