Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Antonio Habas said the win against FC Goa is very important for them. The Mariners won by 1-0 against the Gaurs in the 15th match week of the Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Wednesday.
The first half ended without any goals but the visitors were able to break the deadlock in the second half. Dimitri Petratos continued his good form as he scored in the 74th minute to put his team in front.
The tourists had 46.8% possession and took five shots on target. But this was the first loss for the Gaurs in the ongoing season.
“The first half was for FC Goa. After that, we made a few substitutions and the team was better. I think that in the second half we decided (the game) and we scored. The team was disciplined and (created chances) going forward. We had energy, that was the most important (for the win). We have more energy now with young players,” he said in the post-match press conference.
“This victory is very important for us. Because now the team has started to grow. We came here with a possibility to win. This win is an important win because FC Goa was the number one (unbeaten team) in the last few months and today they lost to us,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Mariners had veered off the track towards the end of the previous year. They had lost three consecutive matches but now have remained unbeaten in their previous three games, winning two of them.
“We have to think about the first eleven because we have three matches in one week. We travel and (we have to keep in account) the change of temperature. We have to analyse the first eleven and make maybe 4-5 changes,” he concluded.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will next take on NorthEast United FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata on Saturday.
