Two-time Hero Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC have signed Polish striker Lukasz Gikiewicz ahead of the eight season of the tournament. The centre-forward is the fifth signing of the season for Marina Machans for the upcoming edition.
Lukasz Gikiewicz has all the experience under his belt as he has played almost 200 club matches in which he has scored 49 goals and has also provided 21 assists.
“We look forward to Lukasz strengthening our attack and providing much-needed goals this season. This is a very positive signing for us,” said CFC co-owner Vita Dani.
Meanwhile, the 33-year old from Poland has the experience of playing in Asian countries like Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Bahrain. He finished as the top scorer of the 2017-18 Jordanian Pro League while playing for Al-Faisaly Amman.
“I am very happy to join the club. My aim is to immediately help the team in getting a third ISL title. The fans deserve it and so does the club that has won the league two times already,” Lukasz told the club media team.
In fact, the Polish striker has played in top rated European club competitions such as the Europa League as well as the Champions League. He has played a total of 12 matches in these two major tournaments.
“Lukasz is a team player with good experience and a great personality. I believe he will help the team in many aspects, especially with goals,” CFC head coach Bozidar Bandovic commented.
Chennai could only win three matches out of the 20 they played and thus had a disappointing previous season. Ergo, the two-time champions will aim to turn the tables in the upcoming season of ISL. The tournament is going to reportedly begin from November 19 in Goa.
