Hyderabad FC forward, Liston Colaco has stated his desire and dream of playing more games and subsequently feature for the Indian national football team.
The 21-year-old has been touted as one of India’s biggest potentials, but he has not quite replicated the form and performances expected of him.
He made his professional debut with FC Goa in the India Super League in 2017 after signing for the Gaurs from Salgaocar FC, where he had his youth team football.
Nevertheless, He was with the developmental side of FC Goa before he was promoted to the main team. His goalscoring feat at the 2017 Santosh Trophy where he helped Goa reach the final fastened his first-team debut.
However, in three years at Goa FC, he only made 8 appearances and didn’t get to score a goal. The striker didn’t hide his lack of opportunity at Goa after he made his first 90 minutes in the ISL at Hyderabad FC, a team he only joined in January.
“I lacked opportunities at FC Goa, but when I moved to Hyderabad, I felt that I had some hope (to perform) with some playing time. So I showed that I can do much better and next season is all about working harder to be at my best. I have to concentrate and stay focused,” he was quoted on Goal.
His first full game came against NorthEast United in the last game of the 2019-20 India Super League season where he got a brace.
Eventually, he had four more appearances under interim coach Javier Gurri at Hyderabad FC before the end of the season, and he has explained his optimism with the hiring of Spaniard, Albert Roca.
“We have heard of his success with Bengaluru FC, and I am hoping that he will help me to build up my potential. Hyderabad’s playing style suits me well. My role in the team helped me enjoy the game. Basically, I like to play a free game without much pressure, and there was a lot of motivation from the coaches to play your own game,” he added.
