ATK Mohun Bagan talismanic striker Roy Krishna has decided to part ways with the club after two successful seasons. Krishna said he doesn’t have the words to explain how he feels after bidding goodbye to the Kolkata-based club.
Krishna joined hands with ATK (former name) in the 2019-20 season and he was able to straight have a positive impact. The forward scored a total of 15 goals in that season, which was the highest of the edition, and thus played a key role in the club’s third ISL title.
Subsequently, he scored 14 goals in the next season for ATK Mohun Bagan and played a key role in guiding them to the final. In the 2021-22 season, the Fijian striker scored seven goals and provided four assists in 16 matches despite his troubles with injury. Thus, he played another important role in helping his team finish among the top four teams.
“Thank you for the memories, Roy! Goodbye, and good luck!” the club announced on Twitter.
‘No words can explain how I feel but I’d like to thank everyone – the club, fans & well-wishers for all your love on & off the pitch. My family & I truly appreciate all that you’ve done for us. We will miss all that we’ve shared but will cherish the memories, the striker posted on his social media accounts.
Meanwhile, Krishna made a total of 60 appearances for the club during his stint and scored a total of 36 goals, and provided 18 assists. Krishna is the fourth-highest goal-scorer in the ISL history behind Bartholomew Ogbeche (53), Sunil Chhetri (51), and Ferran Corominas (48).
There is no doubt that ATK Mohun Bagan will now have big shoes to fill after Krishna’s departure and the likes of Liston Colaco, Manvir Singh and Kiyan Nassiri will look to deliver the goods for the club in the next season.
