FC Goa’s defender Saviour Gama has extended his contract with the club. Gama had an impressive season for the Gaurs as the first choice left-back and he has committed to the team until 2024.
Gama was able to impress Juan Ferrando as a defender and he started in the final XI in all but one game in the seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League. The 24-year old consistent performances helped FC Goa finish in the top four of the league stage and qualify for the semi-finals.
However, the Gaurs’ journey in the competition was ended when they lost to eventual winners Mumbai City FC on penalties by 6-5.
The youngster played a key role in helping the team move forward and scored one goal and also provided three assists in his seventh season of the ISL.
Gama was also part of the team which played in the AFC Champions League.
Speaking after completing the paperwork, Gama said, “Well, to be honest, this feels like home to me. I have felt at home not only because I am in Goa, but also because the club has helped me become the player I am today and has given me the respect that every player craves.
“The new contract means that there will be even more responsibilities on my shoulders and that’s something I am looking forward to fulfilling. I am living my dream.”
FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando spoke on the Gama development too. “Gama is a player that has really impressed me. I feel he is one of the players who has got better throughout the season. His attitude towards learning is fantastic and his best days lie ahead of him.
“He is very comfortable on the ball, which helps us to build from the back and he is a fighter, who fights for the team every second of the game. I am excited to see him progress even further in the next few years,” he said.
