Kerala Blasters FC’s Mikael Stahre delighted after ‘deserved’ win against Chennaiyin FC

Kerala Blasters head coach Mikael Stahre shared his happiness after their 3-0 win against Chennaiyin FC in the ongoing Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Jesus Jimenez scored in the 56th minute whereas Noah Sadaoui scored the team’s second goal after 14 minutes. Kannoly Praveen then put the game to bed as he found the back of the net in the stoppage time.

The Yellow Tuskers dominated the possession with 61.3% and took a total of four shots on target.

Reflecting on the game in the post-match press conference, he said, “Firstly, congrats to all of us. I think it was a great win. I think we controlled the game. They had some big chances when we made individual mistakes, I don’t know, in the first 15-20 minutes of the game. But in general, we defended well and also had great chances all the time. So I think we deserved this victory.”

Kerala Blasters FC had lost their last three matches before international break and it was crucial for them to get back to winning ways.

“It was a really important game for us to be back on track, but I think we handled it well. And I think the supporters also supported us in a great way. There were more people today than expected, and it was also an electric atmosphere like always. So, yeah, in general, absolutely a solid game and well-deserved,” he said.

The home team was able to keep the opposition at bay as the visitors could only manage two shots on target.

Speaking of keeping a clean sheet, Stahre said, “It was a super important win, but it was also super important to keep a clean sheet. Finally, finally, a clean sheet. And so I will sleep with a smile on my face.”

Kerala Blasters FC will next take on FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi on Thursday.
