Defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant are gearing up for a pivotal clash against Odisha FC in their upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) fixture, aiming to sustain their winning streak, marking a pursuit for their sixth consecutive victory at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday.
Having secured five successive wins, Mohun Bagan is eyeing to uphold their winning momentum in a bid to solidify their position. The upcoming clash holds particular significance as it provides an opportunity for redemption after their 5-2 triumph over Odisha FC in the AFC Cup group league stage.
Amidst the challenge of preserving their winning run, Mohun Bagan is grappling with injuries to key players, including Ashique Kuruniyan, Manvir Singh, Dimitri Petratos, and Anwar Ali. The absence of these pivotal squad members has placed pressure on the team, impacting their balance and attacking prowess.
Coach Juan Ferrando acknowledged the difficulties, stating, “It is not necessary to change a lot of things… It is an important match, and we need to get our act together,” emphasizing the importance of consistency and regaining their equilibrium.
On the opposing side, Odisha FC, under the guidance of Sergio Lobera, is demonstrating impressive form and resilience. Currently fourth in the standings with 13 points from seven matches, Odisha FC is striving to maintain their upward trajectory. Lobera stressed the team’s growth and the need for a balanced approach between attack and defense, emphasizing improvement and self-focus.
The AFC Cup win against Mohun Bagan remains a motivating factor for Odisha FC, aiming to showcase their mettle once again and prove their capabilities extend beyond their previous encounter.
With both teams eyeing crucial points to bolster their standings, the clash promises to be a test of skill, strategy, and resilience. Mohun Bagan SG seeks to maintain their winning spree, while Odisha FC endeavors to continue their impressive form under the mentorship of Sergio Lobera, setting the stage for an exhilarating encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium.
