Mumbai City FC extends contract with Vignesh Dakshinamurthy until 2025

The Hero Indian Super League champions Mumbai City have extended their contract with full-back Vignesh Dakshinamurthy for another four years. The contract extension will keep Vignesh at the club till 2025.

The 23-year old had a fabulous season for Mumbai City FC and played an instrumental role in taking the club to the Hero ISL League Winners Shield and the club’s maiden Hero ISL title. Thus, Vignesh is one of the most exciting young talents in the country and he has shown the promise to go a long way in his career.

Vignesh played all the 22 matches for Mumbai City in the seventh season of the Hero ISL and also scored an unbelievable goal against Hyderabad FC, which was his maiden goal for the Islanders.

Vignesh is expected to play a crucial role for the Mumbai City FC in the next season of the ISL and he is also expected to deliver the goods in the team’s maiden AFC Champions League campaign in 2021-22.

Vignesh is delighted to put pen to paper for the contract extension and expressed his happiness.

“It’s a great moment for me and my family. I’ve been at Mumbai City FC for three years now and it’s a special feeling committing my next few years to a club that has shown faith and supported me throughout. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I could be a part of a historic season, winning our first trophies for Mumbai City FC. The vision of the club, the head coach Sergio Lobera and the determination of our group, despite the tough circumstances we’re currently living in, is the reason why we won and why we are a big family,” Vignesh said after penning his contract.

“Like I said before, working with a guiding force like Sergio Lobera has been a gift for me. The coach trusted me and my abilities, sometimes more than I did myself, and that’s why I could give my best. I want to continue to give my best to this club and its fans and I look forward to sharing more incredible success with the Islanders family for a long time to come,” he added.

The Islanders head coach Sergio Lobera also heaped praise on the youngster and stated Vignesh is always looking to improve himself in the training sessions.

“Vignesh is a young, hardworking boy, and an excellent professional who is eager to improve each and every day. He showed tremendous character throughout the season and he was ready to step in whenever the team needed him. I strongly believe that Vignesh has a bright future ahead of him and I am happy that he will be with us at Mumbai City FC for the foreseeable future,” said head coach Lobera.
