Nigerian striker Bartholomew Ogbeche has officially been announced as a Mumbai City FC player. The India Super League side announced on Wednesday as the striker signed a one year deal.
The 36-year-old started his career with Nigerian club sides Lobi Stars before moving to France with Paris Saint-Germain.
Ogbeche played in France with (Bastia, Metz), the UAE (Al Jazira), Spain (Alavés, Valladolid, Cádiz, Xerez), Greece (Kavala), England (Middlesbrough) and the Netherlands (Cambuur, Willem II).
His Indian football journey started with NorthEast United in the 2018-19 season, scoring 12 goals in 18 games.
He also played for Kerala Blasters in the 2019-20 campaign of the India Super League, making 16 appearances and finished with 15 goals as he was the joint highest goalscorer that season.
Ogbeche, an ex-international with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, has played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, stated that he can’t wait to feature for the Sergio Lobera-led side.
“I’m very happy and excited to be here at Mumbai City. Besides the brilliant mix of youth and experience in our team, the apparent quality and level of the squad speaks volumes about the ambitions we have here at the club. In my two years in the ISL, I’ve come up a fair few times against Sergio Lobera’s team, and our Coach’s positive and free-flowing brand of football perfectly fits my playing style and idea of the game as well. I can’t wait to get started as I look forward to a great season with my new family.” Bartholomew Ogbeche said.
Manager of Mumbai City Sergio Lobera said he has been following the striker for two seasons and admitted that he is a top-class striker with his level of experience.
Lobera also stated that the striker could be a role model and a source of motivation for the young players in the squad.
