Nikhil Prabhu part ways with FC Goa, Konsham Phalguni Singh joins NorthEast United

The Indian Super League transfer window is open and clubs are busy in improving their roster for the upcoming season. Therefore FC Goa defender Nikhil Prabhu has parted ways with the club after a brief spell.

Prabhu, who came up through the ranks at Hyderabad FC was promoted during the ISL 2020-21 season. However, the youngster did not get enough gametime and therefore was loaned away to Odisha FC He made his ISL debut with the Kalinga Warriors in a 0-0 draw against Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

The Odisha FC team management liked the young defender and therefore they made the loan deal permanent. However, after three appearances, the then-coach Josep Gombau loaned him away to Fc Goa.

Prabhu represented FC Goa four times last season and also featured in the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL).

It will be interesting to see where the young versatile defender joins ahead of the new ISL season.

On the other hand, NorthEast United announced a big signing of Konsam Phalguni Singh on a two-plus one-year deal. Phalguni is a sensational midfielder who has made a name for himself in the I-League and will be looking to leave a similar impact in the ISL aswell.

He has donned the colours of Sreenidhi Deccan FC and TRAU FC in the past, he has registered 48 I-League appearances netting two goals and providing seven assists. However, he is known for his exceptional tenacity and industrious nature in the middle of the park. He has the ability to fight for the ball coupled with his silky touch which allows him to evade defenders in tight spaces.

New NorthEast United coach Juan Pedro Benali was very delighted to sign the 28-year-old midfielder. He said, “I am delighted to welcome Konsam to the team. I have watched his performances in the Hero I-League and share a strong belief in his potential. His tenacity and technical prowess are exceptional and I am confident that he will add value to the squad.”

Phalguni Singh was one of the standout players in the I-League in recent times and it is a surprise why no other club snapped him up before the Highlanders. However, club CEO Mandar Tamhane also echoed the same sentiments as coach Benali. “Konsam Phalghuni Singh stands out as one of the most promising players from the I- league and he also fits into our philosophy of providing a professional platform for talented players hailing from the region. Without a doubt, he will be adored and cherished by our fans,” Tamhane opined.

Lastly, the Manipuri midfielder was very delighted to sign for a club which represents his region and believes that this is a great opportunity for him to shine at the big stage. “I’m very excited to start this journey, representing the Club from my region, I will wear the colours of the team with the utmost pride. I believe that this is a wonderful opportunity for me to showcase my skills and I am dedicated to helping the team on the path to success,” Phalguni stated.
