NorthEast United FC Bolsters Attack with Signing of Spanish Forward Guillermo Fernández Hierro

NorthEast United FC has made a significant move in preparation for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season by announcing the signing of Spanish forward Guillermo Fernández Hierro. The 31-year-old striker, who began his professional career with Athletic Bilbao and made his La Liga debut in 2013, brings a wealth of experience and scoring prowess to the Guwahati-based team.

Guillermo, often known as Guillermito, is renowned for his sharp finishing skills and versatility in front of goal. Over his career, he has played for several prominent Spanish clubs, including Elche, CD Numancia, and most recently, Cultural Leonesa. His resume boasts a number of significant achievements, such as scoring in the UEFA Champions League group stage against FC Porto and contributing decisive goals in both La Liga and Copa del Rey. Guillermo also played a pivotal role in CD Numancia’s successful campaigns in the Segunda División, highlighting his ability to perform in crucial matches.

The signing of Guillermo Fernández Hierro is a clear statement of intent from NorthEast United FC as they aim to enhance their offensive capabilities. His experience in Spain’s top leagues is expected to provide a substantial boost to the Highlanders’ attacking lineup. Guillermo’s adaptability in various forward roles will be a valuable asset as the team looks to improve their standings in the ISL.

Expressing his enthusiasm about joining NorthEast United FC, Guillermo said, “I am very excited to work with the team and coaching staff. The club has shown faith in me, and I am ready to repay them and set my mark in the Indian Super League.” His commitment and eagerness to contribute to the team’s success have already resonated well with fans and management alike.

Head Coach Juan Pedro Benali praised Guillermo’s arrival, emphasizing the impact he is expected to have on the team. “Guillermo is a very experienced professional; his career says it all. He will give us the much-needed boost in our attack, and we are happy to have him here,” Benali said.

Mandar Tamhane, CEO of NorthEast United FC, echoed similar sentiments regarding the new signing. “We feel we have got the right fit for our team. Guillermo has played at the top level of football in Europe, his expertise will not only bolster our attack but also serve as a catalyst for growth and development for our entire squad,” Tamhane stated. This acquisition is seen as not just a short-term boost but a long-term investment in the club’s growth and competitive edge.

The combination of Guillermo’s experience and finishing prowess, along with the existing talents in NorthEast United FC, promises an exciting season for the Highlanders. Fans can look forward to a rejuvenated attack that aims to compete fiercely in the ISL.
