SC East Bengal appoint Malaysian sports science expert Joseph Ronald D’Angelus for the upcoming Indian Super League season

Indian Super League outfit SC East Bengal have appointed Malaysian sports scientist, Joseph Ronald D’Angelus for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Joseph, who was with the Bhutan Football Federation as the head of sports science before joining the Red and Golds will be heading the physiotherapy and fitness analysis department for the Kolkata giant.

Joseph D’Angelus is a very experienced man at his job. He has worked with several teams back in Malaysia starting with  PJ City FC and Negeri Sembilan FA. He has also worked in Myanmar with Hantharwady United FC. Interestingly this is not his first stint in Indian football. He was part of Karin Bencheriffa’s coaching staff at Mohun Bagan back in 2012. He was appointed as the fitness coach of the Mariners. Therefore his vast experience and knowledge will only help SC East Bengal push forward in their second season in the Indian Super League.

“I am happy to be associated with SC East Bengal. It is a club with so much history and working here will help me grow. I believe in pushing athletes out of their comfort zone and taking them to the next level physically. I will also work on different rehabilitation methods to expedite players’ recovery from injuries,” the Malaysian said.

Proving his worth, Joseph D’Aneglus has also bagged a silver medal at the South Asian Games in 2019 as he also revealed the high profile names under whom he has been a fitness trainer or sports science head.

“I have worked with many experienced head coaches like Vincent Subramaniam, E.Elavarasan, P.N. Sivaji, Rene Desayee, Karim Bencherifa, Jorg Stenibrunner, K.Devan, Mohd Azrai Khor, Myo Hlaing Win and Mario Lemos,” he added.

With him, SC East Bengal’s signings this summer are more or less over. The Red and Golds mutually terminated the deal with last season’s head coach Robbie Fowler and have now appointed former Real Madrid Castilla manager, Jose Manuel Diaz Fernandez, commonly known as ‘Manolo’ in Spain. The Spanish tactician has finalized the foreign signings in no time for the club. The Red and Golds have signed players from all over the globe. It all started with the signing of Slovenian midfielder Amir Dervisevic.

Followed by the arrivals of two centre backs, Tomislav Mrcela and former Lazio man Franjo Prce. To bolster the attack, SC East Bengal signed Nigerian striker and former Molde FK man Daniel Chima. Lastly, Dutch holding midfielder Darren Sideol also joined the team following his former Hercules manager. Lastly, Croatian striker Antonio Perosevic also joined the team. Diaz has also brought former Real Madrid manager Angel Garcia to become his new assistant at the Kolkata outfit.
