Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag said he isn’t any Harry Potter that he can weave his magic wand to end club’s woes. United suffered another humiliating loss of 3-0 against arch-rivals Liverpool while playing at home, Old Trafford, on Sunday.
United came up with a clumsy performance and their defense was all over the place against the Reds, who have now won all of their three matches. Ten Hag’s team, on the other hand, have lost their last two in another horrid start to the season.
United’s veteran defensive midfielder Casemiro gave away the ball on two occasions, and Colombian striker Luis Diaz capitalized to give a 2-0 lead to his team, with Mohamed Salah assisting on both occasions.
Salah then tripled Liverpool’s lead after 11 minutes into the second half.
“It’s just the third game in the season, we have to build a new team,” Ten Hag said.
“I explained this so many times. We will build it. We have young players and players to build in. Today we had three players who started for the first time this season. We will be fine. It is clear we have to improve but at the end of the season I am confident we will have a big chance to lift another trophy.”
The Dutchman also decided to substitute Casemiro, who made two errors after half-time.
Meanwhile, new £50 million ($65.6m) signing Manuel Ugarte was watching from the stands and Ten Hag revealed the Uruguayan will need more time to get into the playing XI.
“So this is another one, we have to build him into the team,” he said.
“It will take time, so it’s not like I’m Harry Potter. That is what you have to acknowledge. And if you see Manuel Ugarte, he didn’t play so far in the season. Not one match minute. He needs to build his fitness and then we have to build him in the team.”
The Red Devils will next take on Southampton on 14th September at St. Mary’s Stadium.
