“Want to score more goals to help my team,” says ATK Mohun Bagan star Liston Colaco after scoring a brace against Gokulam Kerala

ATK Mohun Bagan’s biggest trump card Liston Colaco is finally regaining form as he slammed home a brace in his team’s 5-1 win over Gokulam Kerala in the Super Cup. The 24-year-old finally found his shooting boots which were missing in the Indian Super League.

Liston was very satisfied with his performance as he scored two world-class goals against Gokulam Kerala. He received a pass on the left flank from Hugo Boumous and after taking a step inside, he launched his shot as the ball curled and rippled the top corner. His second goal saw him slam in a long ranger after Ashish Rai found him with a diagonal pass.

“It’s a great feeling to score a double. Now our target is to log full points against Jamshedpur FC on Friday,” Colaco said to The Telegraph.

The Super Cup is a great boost for these players who have not had great ISL campaigns but now they can play a role in their team’s victory. Similarly, Liston, who scored a goal and provided four assists throughout the ISL season is getting a second chance to come back in the current season.

He shared that before the match he had set a target of scoring a goal and when he achieved that target he was very satisfied. He shared how his performances were not up to the mark in the ISL and he wanted to improve and the brace against the Malabarians, it is a step in the right direction.

“Before the match (against Gokulam Kerala FC), I told myself I have to find my name on the scoresheet. For a long time, I haven’t performed to expectations. In some cases (during the Hero ISL 2022-23 campaign), I was unlucky not to find the target. Thankfully, everything fell in place against (Gokulam) Kerala FC. Now I want to score more goals and help my team,” Liston opened up.

ATK Mohun Bagan will face Jamshedpur FC next in the Super Cup. The Men of Steel have also won their first match in the tournament when they defeated FC Goa 5-3. It will be interesting to see which team prevails on the day.

The winners of the ISL 2022-23 will face the ISL 2020-21 Shield Winners in a clash that will decide which team will go through to the semifinals. Jamshedpur FC will look to win this match and then they will fancy their chances against Gokulam Kerala in their last group game. Whereas ATK Mohun Bagan’s final group stage fixture will be against FC Goa.
