Liverpool’s former player Jamie Carragher has urged the club to keep their faith in Darwin Nunez. Carragher feels the Uruguayan is a rough diamond and he is going to return the goods for the team in the future.
Nunez is well known for his speed and he can add value to his team. The forward has had a decent run for the Reds in the ongoing season, scoring five goals and providing two assists in 10 matches he has played in the Premier League.
But, the 23-year-old from Artigas missed an opportunity against Manchester City in the Round of 16 of the Carabao Cup at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday as the visitors lost by 3-2. However, the youngster created an opportunity for Mohamed Salah for Liverpool’s second goal.
Jamie Carragher said on told Sky Sports: “He is a rough diamond. He will never had a quiet game, he will either score or will show a series of missed chances.
“He is not the most technical in terms of finishing. He tries to burst the net but there is definitely something to work with but you wouldn’t want to play against him with that pace.”
Carragher feels Nunez will change his position when Roberto Firmino will return to action.
“I think right now because of Diaz injury he played through the centre. I think when Liverpool get Roberto Firmino back he will go wide, but he will become that centre forward in future.”
On the other hand, former Liverpool forward Michael Owen heaped praise on the club’s target Jude Bellingham, who impressed in England’s campaign at the World Cup.
“He does almost too much, and at first I thought ‘Jeez Jude, you’re wasting energy covering too much ground because of your inexperience, “I was wrong; the more I watch him, I love the way he plays. A lot of people, when they become very good, it almost becomes uncool to do the hard yards and the stuff you don’t really get loads of praise (for).
