Avani Lekhara shatters the world record and bags gold to book ticket in the Paris Paralympics

Indian ace and Tokyo Paralympic champion shooter Avani Lekhara has continued her great form on her return to the international arena as she clinched the gold medal at the Chateauroux Shooting World Cup in SH1 10m Air rifle category. The Indian starlet who has already made the nation proud in several occasions continued her quest in France as she broke the world record with a score of 250.6, breaking a world record that was also set by her.

The Indian shooting sensation Lekhara never looked in any kind of trouble as she held her nerve tight and delivered when it mattered. It seemed like she has cruised her way through to the top spot in the podium after setting up a new world record. Polish shooter Emilia Babska also delivered a scintillating performance in the tournament as she finished with the silver medal. Babska fell short by a few points as the Polish shooter finished with a final score of 247.6. The last spot in the podium for the bronze medal was picked up by Swedish star shooter Anna Normann. The Swedish shooter was a bit off than the other two as she never looked like competing with Lekhara and Babska. Normann finished with a final score of 225.6 and finished in the third spot at the Chateauroux Shooting World Cup in France.

Avani Lekhara who was chasing after her own World record broke it with her 24th and final shot. The Indian starlet led Babska by 2.2 ahead of her final shot as she had nerves of ice to hit the bull’s eye with a sensational 10.8 to break the world record as she once again bagged the gold medal, maintaining her form since the Tokyo Paralympics.

Her previous world record came at the Tokyo Paralympics where she shot a total of 249.6 in the finals as she wrote history. She became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics.

Her effort at the Chateauroux Shooting World Cup is more than enough for the Indian superstar to book a berth in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. The Padma Shri awardee is known for her stupendous dedication towards her sport and her calmness bring out the best in her in every performance on such world stages. India once again waits to see Avani Lekhara in action this time in Paris with the same excitement and joy.
