Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain raises allegations of mental harassment ahead of the Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games are knocking on our doors and just before the action Olympic bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain has raised some serious allegations. The ace pugilist has raised allegations of mental health ahead of the important games as her coach Sandhya Gurung is not allowed in the Commonwealth Games village and that has taken a toll on her training.

Lovlina shared her concern on Twitter where she wrote a long heartbreaking note which left the sports fans all across the country in awe of the entire situation. She wrote, “I am saying this with a lot of sadness that I am experiencing a lot of harassment. I am being harassed every time my coaches who helped me win a medal at the Olympics are removed from my training process and competition. One of these coaches, Sandhya Gurung Ji, is also a Dronacharya awardee.”

The boxer from Assam who shocked everyone by winning the Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics has highlighted how her coaches are always appointed late and then she has to go that extra mile in her training. All of this are bound to affect her game as her focus is on all these issues than on her game and training.

“Despite several requests both my coaches are always appointed late for the training. I have to go through a lot of hardships which thus hurts my training process and also puts me through mental harassment,” Lovalina further added.

Lovlina shared how her coach Sandhya Gurung is stranded out of the Commonwealth Games village and has been denied entry. Even her second coach was sent back to India only adding to her trouble. This is something really not acceptable especially when a world event like the Commonwealth Games are approaching.

“My coach Sandhya Gurung Ji is currently standing outside the Commonwealth Games Village and is being denied entry. This has put a halt to my training process just eight days before the event. My other coach has also been sent back to India. After multiple requests, I am still being put under mental hardship. I don’t know how to focus on my game. Due to this, it hurt my last World Championships and I don’t want to ruin my Commonwealth Games too. I hope I can break through this politics and bring a medal for the country. Jai Hind,” Lovlina concluded.

In response to all of this, the Boxing Federation of India has revealed that they are working with the Indian Olympic Association to find a solution and allow Sandhya Gurung entry to the Commonwealth Games village..

Lovlina Borgohain won the bronze medal at the Olympics in Tokyo last year. She became the third Indian boxer after MC Mary Kom and Vijender Singh to win an Olympic medal. However her performance at the  World Championships was not great as she bowed out of the pre quarterfinals. She will look to bounce back at the Commonwealth Games.
