Former WWE Superstar Paul Wight who was formerly known as ‘The Big Show’ recalled the moment when WWE Chairman Vince McMahon reacted to his reaction of joining AEW Wrestling.
Before coming to AEW, Wight spent over two decades at WWE and is undoubtedly one of the most renowned superstars in the wrestling world. The last time he featured in WWE was back in January this year at the RAW Legends Night show.
Wight revealed how McMahon wished him good luck when he heard about the announcement of him leaving WWE and joining AEW. Wight also shared how he felt that he needed a fresh start after spending so much time in one place.
“Here’s the thing, Vince actually called me the day it was announced that I signed with AEW, wished me a lot of luck, agreed that I’m a big asset to AEW and thanked me for all the years I worked in WWE. There’s no animosity, there’s no anger, there’s no dirt, so to speak. This just came down to, you know, contract negotiations and opportunities. Let’s face it, over 20 years in WWE, I have done everything there is to do, in WWE. I needed a fresh start, and for me, Vince understands that and understands me as a talent, and this was an opportunity for me to do that,” Wight revealed.
The veteran clears the air by adding how he only went to Tony Khan after his contract with WWE was over and he liked the project that the people at the AEW were planning to build.
Once the paperwork was done the veteran wrestler was announced by AEW on February 24. Another thing that came as a shock was how Wight would also act as a co-commentator in the AEW Dark Revolution, which is AEW new show. So fans will be intrigued to see their favourite star in both avatars, on the ring and also with the mic in hand.
He teased on his AEW Dynamite debut about a ‘Hall of Fame’ worthy star joining AEW and hearing the news the fans went berserk. People started guessing names and speculating on different superstars. In the end, a lot of speculations were true as another former WWE star Christian Cage made his debut at the Revolution as a surprise new addition to the company.
