Andrey Rublev assures his fans that he is in good health and will fly to Melbourne for the Australian Open

Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev who won the Mubadala World Tennis Championship has recently assured his followers that he is in the pink of his health and has no COVID like symptoms. The Russian youngster who defeated Andy Murray in the final of the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi is currently preparing for the upcoming Australia Open and will fly to Melbourne on December 27.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship was in the news for various reasons. But there were several players who participated in the exhibition tournament tested positive for COVID-19. Players like Rafael Nadal, Emma Raducanu, Belinda Bencic and women’s champion Ons Jabeur have all tested positive for the virus. There is a chance of more players testing for the same in the coming days.

However, in a recent interview with the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Rublev has assured his fans and have cleared the air on his health. “I feel good, there are no problems or symptoms, I feel great,” the Russian said. “I am currently training, preparing. I will fly to Australia on December 27.”

Rublev’s more focus has gone to singles and his individual development as a player has been immense in recent times. However, he is a very able doubles player. He has two doubles titles to his name. His recent doubles title came with compatriot Aslan Karatsev in Doha earlier this year.

The 24-year-old is once again gearing up for an entry into the doubles in the Australian Open. Rublev will be pairing up with Ukrainian tennis player Denys Molchanov.

Rublev highlighted that he knows Molchanov for a long time. However, he knew that the 34-year-old Ukrainian needed a high ranked player to feature in the Australian Open. Therefore Rublev decided to pair up with the 93rd ranked player.

Rublev pointed out how this Australian Major was important for the 34-year-old. He shared how Molchanov was not comfortable pairing up someone else.

“I have known Denis for a long time,” he said. “It so happened that he can get to the Grand Slam tournaments in doubles only with players with high ratings. It was very important for him to get to the “Grand Slam”, we talked about this with him for a long time.

“But recent years have passed in a difficult epidemiological environment, with many restrictions,” he added. “He was afraid to risk someone testing positive. Now it has become a little easier, and we showed up together at the Australian Open.”
