India Drawn Against Togo in Davis Cup 2025 World Group I Play-offs

The Indian tennis team will face Togo in the Davis Cup 2025 World Group I play-offs, as announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) on Monday. The play-off ties are scheduled for January 31–February 2, 2025, with the host nation yet to be determined.

India secured their spot in the World Group I play-offs after a dominant 4-0 victory over Pakistan in the 2024 play-offs. However, the team faced a setback in September, losing to Sweden in the World Group I tie, which sent them back to the play-offs for a chance to return to the top level of the Davis Cup competition.

Togo, on the other hand, earned their place in the World Group I play-offs after a series of impressive victories. They defeated Indonesia 3-2 in the 2024 World Group II play-offs before pulling off a stunning 4-0 upset over Latvia, securing their promotion.

The ITF conducted the draws for both the World Group I and II play-offs for the 2025 Davis Cup on Monday. In total, 52 nations will participate in 26 home-and-away ties, to be held in various cities worldwide in early 2025. The results of these play-offs will determine which teams advance to compete in World Group I ties in September, alongside the losing teams from the 2025 Qualifiers’ first round.

The Davis Cup has undergone a structural revision for the 2025 season, requiring some nations to compete at a higher level than in previous formats. This year, two teams that lost their World Group II ties in September and four nations that did not win promotion from regional Group III events will now contest the World Group I and II play-offs, respectively.

Pakistan and Mexico, ranked 46th in the latest Davis Cup Nations Rankings, were among the highest-ranked losing teams in World Group II and were elevated to the World Group I play-offs after a lottery.

India, which has never won the Davis Cup, has a long history in the competition, finishing as runners-up three times— in 1966, 1974, and 1987. Facing a resurgent Togo, India will aim to capitalize on their experience and move back up the ranks in the 2025 Davis Cup, with a victory in the play-offs crucial to their aspirations.

Winning teams from the 2025 World Group I play-offs will advance to World Group I ties in September, while the losing teams will drop to World Group II.
