The world number one tennis player, Novak Djokovic is wary of the threat of Rafael Nadal. The Spainiard had decided to pull out of the US Open 2020 due to Covid-19 scare. However, it gave him some extra time to prepare for the French Open 2020.
Before the Roland Garros, Nadal will make his return to competitive tennis after a gap of seven months when he will play fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreño Busta in the first round of the Italian Open on Tuesday. Nadal last played in the Mexico Open and he was able to win it.
Meanwhile, there is no doubt that Rafael Nadal is always the favourite to win on clay in the French Open. Djokovic understands that it would be hard for him to go past Nadal, as he is almost unbeatable on clay.
Nadal has a great record at the Roland Garros and he would be aiming to clinch his 13th French open title in the upcoming Grand slam.
“Let’s see how it turns out. Rafa obviously decided to stay on clay and practice. Surely that gives him more advantage, but even if he didn’t practice for that long on clay he would still be the number one favorite in Roland Garros or any other clay tournament because he’s just Rafa,” Djokovic said.
There is no doubt that Rafael Nadal is the undisputed king of clay and it would be difficult to keep him at bay in the French Open.
On the other hand, Novak Djokovic was recently disqualified from the US Open 2020 after he unintentionally hit the lines umpire on the neck. Djokovic revealed that he can not guarantee he wouldn’t do anything like this again in the future but he would be more cautious of his actions.
“I cannot promise or cannot guarantee that I will never ever do anything similar to that in my life. I’m going to try my best, obviously, but anything is possible in life,” Djokovic said.
The French Open is all set to begin from September 20.
