Legendary Sunil Gavaskar doesn’t want Rishabh Pant to hurry back into action in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024. Pant is all set to lead Delhi Capitals in the forthcoming season after recovering from a horrific car accident.
The left-hander was recently seen sweating it out in the gym and also in the indoor practice session. Earlier, Delhi Capitals had confirmed that Pant will lead them in the upcoming season of the IPL. However, Pant will not take the glovework role for the franchise.
Pant has amassed 2838 runs at an average of 34.61 and a strike rate of 147.97 in 98 IPL games.
“He certainly has the ability to think on his feet. If he gets back to full fitness, the reins of (Delhi Capitals) captaincy should be handed over to him. Let’s stay hopeful. This season is the first of him coming back to full fitness. Let’s not rush him into doing something that there will be a setback. Knee plays a pivotal role in batting as well as keeping — which, of course, he may not do initially. Maybe he won’t be the usual Rishabh Pant that we are used to seeing,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
The Little Master admitted it will not be a cakewalk for Rishabh Pant to hit the ground running in the IPL for Delhi Capitals and he will need some time to find his best form.
“I’m also a big fan of him. For me, the most important thing, is he should be healthy like before, so that he can come and entertain us. It will be very difficult for him and it will take some time for him to get that batting fluency. But good that he has started training,” Gavaskar added.
IPL 2024 starts from March 22 with CSK hosting RCB at Chennai. Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign against Punjab Kings at Mohali on March 23.
