Unnati Hooda headlines the Indian contingent as they travel to Thailand for the Asian Junior Championships

India’s rising shuttler Unnati Hooda will be one of India’s main leads in the 36-member Indian contingent that has travelled to Nonthaburi, Thailand. The Indian contingent will compete in Badminton Asia U-17 and U-15 Junior Championships 2022. The tournament is scheduled from November 29 to December 4.

Hooda will look to lead the women’s contingent in the U-17 Championship alongside Jiya Rawat and Anmol Kharb. While Tanvi Sharma who topped the trials will be taking the court for the U15 Championships along with Ishita Negi, Suhasi Verma and Sampriti Pal.

India have had a great record in this Championships as Tasnim Mir and Tara Shah had clinched the gold and silver medals in the last edition which happened in 2019. The championships will return after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The players for these championships have gone through trials which took place in Hyderabad last month. The trials have shown how much of a talent there is in India as several players turned up to fight it out for the Championships.

Among the players who have made their way to Thailand, Mohammad Ali Mir, Gnana Dattu, Abhinav Garg and Anil Thoppani are the exciting talents that one should watch out for in the Men’s U-15 Championships whereas Dhurv Negi will be the star showing in the U-17 Championship with talents Ansh Negi, Prajwal Sonawane and Neer Nehwal.

The selected players have gone through a 12 day preparatory camp for the upcoming Championships as they were part of the national camp in Raipur from November 14-25.

There’s also a lot of doubles action with the talented pairing of Arsh Mohammad and Sanskar Saraswat headlining the Indian Doubles contingent. Whereas Divyam Arora and Mayank Rana will have a lot resting on their shoulders to guide India to glory in the U-17 category. In U-15 all eyes will be on Arjun and Aryan Birajdar as Bjorn Jaison and Aatish Sreenivas are also a very talented duo and can surprise a few pairings.

Last but not the least India’s Women’s Doubles pairings are also looking very good as Vennala K and Shriyanshi Valishetty will headline in the U-17 Women’s Doubles Championship along with the pairing of Navya Kanderi and Rakshita Sree S. Aanya Bisht and Siddhi Rawat will defend the tricolour with all their might in the U-15 Women’s Doubles category with the support of another Indian pairing in Tanvi Andluri and Durga Kandrapu.

The Asian Junior Championships have always given us the stars of tomorrow and this time it will be no different. There are plenty of talented players who have travelled and will look to make a name for themselves in the global event in Thailand.
