Los Angeles Lakers’ new signing Russell Westbrook has taken the onus of the team conceding a plethora of turnovers. Westbrook has joined the Lakers in the offseason and the level of expectations from him are huge. However, the 32-year old hasn’t got off to an ideal start in the preseason.
Westbrook has conceded 15 turnovers in the last two matches of the preseason, which is definitely not good signs ahead of season commencement. However, Westbrook isn’t losing his sleep over it and took the responsibility for his poor performance. Westbrook added that it doesn’t count as these are preseason matches.
Westbrook conceded nine turnovers in the team’s last match against Phoenix Suns on Monday.
“The turnover stuff is on me, but good thing they don’t count. Turnover it over 15 times. Ain’t nothing nobody can do about it. It’s all good. It’s on me, though…Easy fix, though. Very easy. Just because of timing. Just timing. Guys getting used to my speed, my pace, my timing. … Me just getting my timing back on passing. … That is definitely on me. Nothing with the offense…Those are all personal errors, timing, and somebody can figure out.”
Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook played for Washington Wizards in the previous season and he was the team’s lone warrior. Westbrook is yet to win his maiden NBA championship and he has received a lot of criticism throughout his career. However, the star player is not bothered about the same.
Westbrook’s documentary Passion Play will be released on Showtime on October 15 which will take a closer look into the player’s career. Westbrook added he wants more hate as it pushes him to give his best.
“I want more of that”. “The way I compete, I think I’m an easy target… In the sports world, I am the bad guy… People don’t really understand who I am. I’d be lying and saying it didn’t affect me.”
The Lakers begin their 2021-22 regular season campaign on October 19 against the Golden State Warriors at the Staples Center.
