Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said Rishabh Pant’s name will be etched in the history books if he plays 100 Test matches. Pant has made an impressive start to his Test career and he has helped India in winning some memorable matches while playing in the foreign conditions.
Pant had played a fine knock of 97 runs in Sydney in the 2020-21 tour to Australia and had played a key role in drawing the Test match. Subsequently, he played another masterpiece knock of 89 runs in the historic Gabba Test match which India won to clinch the series by 2-1.
Furthermore, Pant has scored runs in all the tough foreign conditions and he has shown the skills to turn the match on its head with his blistering batting.
“If he goes on to play 100-plus Tests, his name would be etched in the history books forever. Only 11 Indian cricketers have achieved this feat, and everyone can recall those 11 names. Why does Virat Kohli emphasize so much on playing Tests? He knows that if he plays 100-150 or even 200 Tests, he will be immortalized in the record books,” Sehwag said on the Sports18 show ‘Home of Heroes’
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant didn’t have a great season for Delhi Capitals in Tata IPL 2022 as he scored 340 runs in 13 innings at an average of 30.91 and a strike rate of 151.78. Pant did get off to promising starts on multiple occasions but he could not convert them into substantial scores.
There is no doubt Rishabh Pant has shown the skills to go a long way in his career and he has done a magnificent job in Test cricket. Pant has played 30 Test matches in which he has scored 1920 runs at an average of 40.85 and a strike rate of 70.46.
The southpaw will now be seen in action in the five-match T20I series against South Africa. The one-off Test match will be played against England from June 1.
