Indian veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami continues to write her name in the record books. During the eighth match of the ongoing ICC Women Cricket World Cup 2022, Goswami returned with figures of 1/41 in her nine overs while playing against hosts New Zealand at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Thursday.
Ergo, she has equaled Australia’s Lynn Fullston record of taking 39 wickets in the Women’s World Cup. Goswami dismissed New Zealand wicket-keeper Katey Martin to equal the milestone. The ongoing edition is the fifth of Goswami’s glorious career.
Here’s the list of top wicket-takers at the global event:
Lynn Fullston (Australia) – 39
Jhulan Goswami (India) – 39
Carole Hodges (England) – 37
Clare Taylor (England) – 36
Cathyrn Fitzpatrick (Australia) – 33.
On the other hand, New Zealand posted a par score of 260-9 after Mithali Raj won the toss and decided to bowl first. Amelia Kerr continued her rich form against India as she scored a fine fifty.
Furthermore, Satterthwaite scored a brilliant knock of 75 runs from 84 balls with the help of nine fours. Sophie Devine, Katey Martin, and Maddy Green also contributed to the total for the Kiwis. Pooja Vastrakar was the pick of the Indian bowlers as she returned with impressive figures of 4-34 in her quota of 10 overs.
But India is currently struggling in the run-chase as they need another 118 runs off 56 balls with only four wickets in hand.
Goswami had earlier said that personal milestones don’t matter for her. “Honestly speaking, I didn’t know that…I am not aware of that. But (the) important (thing) is as a senior member of the side, (I should) go there and perform well, give early breakthroughs,” Jhualn said on the eve of the match against New Zealand.
“That is my job and I often stick to my role and that is the important thing. “If you play (for) a long time, you are going to achieve a few individual milestones, yes that gives me a lot of joy. I enjoy (when) I contribute and the team wins. Personal milestones do not matter to me as I am an absolute team player.”
