ICC Women World Cup 2022: It’s a nice feeling: Stafanie Taylor after win against England

West Indies women cricket team skipper Stafanie Taylor was delighted after her team won their second match of the ongoing ICC Women World Cup 2022.

The Windies defeated the defending champions England by seven runs at the University Oval, Dunedin on Wednesday. In fact, this is West Indies’ first-ever World Cup win against England.

West Indies women posted a fighting score of 225 runs after Taylor won the toss and decided to bat first. But the Windies didn’t get off to a great start as they were reeling at 98-4 after 26.1 overs.

However, Shemaine Campbelle and Chedean Nation did the rebuilding work as both of them added 123 runs for the fifth wicket alliance. Campbelle scored a fine knock of 66 runs whereas Nation played an unbeaten knock of 49 runs.

On the other hand, West Indies were able to skittle out England at 218 to win the thrilling contest and bag two crucial points.

Stafanie Taylor said in the post-match presentation, “It’s a nice feeling. Nerve-wracking for me though. When we checked the stats at this ground, we found that we were about 10 under par. We knew we had to bowl well and field well. Really important for the lower order to perform when the top order doesn’t click. We were speechless because she (Dottin) was air-borne (in that catch) but that’s her strength. She moves really fast. We try our best whenever we go out there and don’t try to focus too much on opponents.”

Shemaine Campbelle came up with a fine batting performance as she played a match-winning knock. She was awarded the Player of the Match for her fine performance.

She said after the game, “There was some pressure when I went out to bat, we had lost some quick wickets and I tried to build a partnership. I gave myself a chance and played every ball on its merit. I knew as long as I stick in there the runs would come. We both are quick between the wickets but had to manage her (Nation) injury, I thought she played a great knock for the team as well. I thought the girls were good in the field today, we took some good catches but we just got to keep our nerve and we did that. We just have to go out there and put runs on the board, all in all it was a good game and we need to keep the focus going.”

West Indies will play their third match of the tournament against India Women on Saturday at Seddon Park, Hamilton.
