Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins admitted they were short of a par score after their seven-wicket loss against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday. SRH posted 173 on the board after Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first.
The Orange Army got off to a decent start with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head adding 56 runs for the opening alliance. However, the visitors lost five wickets for 40 runs as their innings veered off the track.
MI’s veteran spinner Piyush Chawla got the big wickets of Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen to put the hosts in front. Head was looking dangerous after scoring 48 but Chawla had him caught at the deep square-leg.
In fact, it looked like SRH would manage only 150 runs on the board but Pat Cummins played a nice cameo of 17-ball 35 to help his team cross the 170-run mark.
On the other hand, MI looked in trouble as they lost three wickets for 31 runs after Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Naman Dhir were dismissed cheaply. However, Suryakumar Yadav scored a scintillating knock of 102 runs off just 51 balls with the help of a dozen fours and six maximums.
Pat Cummins said after the loss, “Probably a couple short, at the Wankhede you want as many as you can get. You always feel like you’re in, the wicket had a little bit in it so we were definitely in the game. I think Sanvir helped us get to that 170 instead of 150, ideally we’d have a bowler. It’s T20 cricket, and it doesn’t always work out.”
Cummins showered praise on SKY for playing a match-winning knock for MI. Yadav completed his fifty off 30 balls and then scored his next fifty off 21 balls.
The Australian added, “SKY played really well. We like playing at home, we’ll wait and see what’s ahead of us. Hopefully a few more fireworks.”
