Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has revealed that he will look at the latest retention rules before taking a final call on his Indian Premier League future. Dhoni, 43, hasn’t yet taken a all on his IPL future and it will be interesting to note his decision.
Dhoni led CSK to glory in IPL 2023 and was expected to hang his boots from the lucrative tournament. But Dhoni decided to play one more season as he said he received a lot of love from the fans and wanted to play for them.
In IPL 2024, Dhoni passed on the captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad before leading the franchise to glory on five occasions. However, CSK could not qualify for the playoff stages, finishing in fifth place with seven wins and as many losses in the league stage.
Meanwhile, all the 10 IPL teams met with BCCI in a meeting on July 31 to discuss the new retention and IPL auction rules.
“There’s a lot of time left for the franchises and management to decide on the retention rules and everything. So when all of it is decided, then we will take a decision. So no we don’t have the ball in our court. When the regulations are decided, then we will be able to take a call…At the end of the day, we will have to take a decision which is best for CSK, and that is the ultimate goal,” Dhoni said at an event.
Dhoni scored 161 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 53.67 and a blistering strike rate of 220.54. Thus, he once again proved that age is just a number as he delivered while batting down the order.
