T20 World Cup 2022: Wasim Akram used to do the same thing – Saeed Ajmal showers praise on Arshdeep Singh

Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has heaped praise on Arshdeep Singh. Ajmal compared the youngster with the former legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram. Ajmal feels it is difficult for the batters to predict which way Arshdeep will swing the ball and it creates a lot of doubt in the batsman’s mind.

Singh has made a terrific start to his International career as he has breathed down the neck of the best batters in the world with his swing. The left-arm pacer scalped two wickets in his first over against South Africa as he was right on the money.

Singh dismissed Quinton de Kock with an outswinger and then accounted for Rilee Rossouw with an inswinger to plumb him in front of the stumps. Furthermore, Singh had scalped three wickets against Pakistan and two against the Netherlands. Overall, he has snared seven wickets in three matches of the T20I showpiece.

“Arshdeep Singh… what a bowler. By his wrists, you can’t figure out what he is going to bowl – which ball he’ll move away or which one he’ll bring back in. I think after Zaheer Khan, he is the first Indian bowler whose swing and the pace is not predictable, as a batsman you can’t predetermine. He gets two to move away, and then gets one to jag back in. That is the ball which is very difficult to face. Agar aap Wasim Akram to dekhein, toh woh bilkul yehi karte thhe (If you remember, Wasim Akram used to do the exact same thing). Arshdeep bowled brilliantly,” Ajmal said on his YouTube channel.

On the other hand, Ajmal also showered praise on Suryakumar Yadav, who has been in the form of his life. Yadav scored a scintillating knock of 68 runs off just 40 balls against South Africa after scoring 51 runs off just 25 balls against the Netherlands.

“There is one thing that stands out about Suryakumar Yadav. He has gotten a role and he is defining it. Every other India batter struggled on that bouncy surface but Suryakumar Yadav… the way he middled the ball, it was fearless. Excellent batting. He deserved to be where he is in the ICC rankings,” he added.

India will take on Bangladesh on Wednesday at the Adelaide Oval.
