WI vs IND 2023: Was quite disappointed with my dismissal in the last Test – Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma admitted he was quite disappointed with his dismissal in the opening Test match against the West Indies at Windsor Park, Dominica. The Indian opener scored his 10th Test century, scoring a fine knock of 103 runs, and played a key role in helping the team post 421-5 in the first innings after the home team was skittled out for 150.

Rohit added a gargantuan opening alliance of 229 runs with debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal, who went on to score a brilliant knock of 171 runs. However, Rohit was dismissed on the next ball after reaching his personal milestone.

Rohit gloved the ball to his thigh pad and West Indies wicket-keeper Joshua Da Silva took a good catch on the bowling of debutant Alick Athanaze. The right-hander had a chance to convert his hundred into a big score but missed out on the opportunity.

Rohit said in the pre-match press conference, “Whenever you get out, you are disappointed. I was quite disappointed with my dismissal in the last Test because I was batting well. My concentration was good for a long period. It was a good opportunity to notch up a big score.”
The batter, however, was quick to add:

“I regretted it at that point, but my focus is now on what I can change going ahead.”

The second Test match will be the 100th Test match between India and West Indies and it will be a historic moment in the two team’s rivalry. In the 99 Test matches, West Indies have won 30, India have won 23 whereas 46 matches have ended in draws.

Rohit said, “Obviously, there has been so much history between the two teams. It has been happening even before I was born, so that shows the long history. Both teams have played good cricket and have entertained people. I hope this Test match is also like that.”

“Such kind of games don’t happen every day. I am fortunate, so is our team, to be playing this game. I am pretty sure the team [West Indies] is going to bounce back. It’s going to be exciting for both countries.”

The second Test match will be played from 20th July at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
