England skipper Ben Stokes feels the ongoing series has the potential to be best men’s Ashes series ever. The three Test matches have been thrilling encounters between these two oldest rivals as all the games have gone down to the wire.
The first two Ashes had gone into the fifth day and final sessions and it was Australia, who had the final laugh. The visitors won the first Test match by two wickets whereas they won the second match by 43 runs.
However, England bounced back to win the third Test match by three wickets and thus all the matches have ended in a thrilling fashion. Ergo, the hosts have the momentum on their side and they will be looking to continue the good show.
“Well, I think if we win this one, and then go into the last game 2-2, then it’ll be hard not to say that this has been the best men’s Ashes series in a long time, if probably not the best. So yeah, I think just overall, like, take away Australia and England, just the cricket that has been played has been absolutely brilliant,” Stokes was quoted as saying to the reporters.
All the matches have provided great entertainment to the fans as they have swung like a pendulum from one side to the other.
“And I think everyone who has watched at the ground or TV in England or TV at home has just really enjoyed the cricket that’s been played. You know, we have seen some special moments on the cricket field. You’ve seen some very special individual performances as well. And guess that’s what you want from sport,” he added.
Meanwhile, England has a good record at Old Trafford, Manchester as they have won 13 out of their last 16 matches at the venue.
Stokes has been terrific for England as he has scored 309 runs in three Test matches and he is the team’s leading run-getter of the series. The fourth Ashes Test will be played at Old Trafford from 19th July onwards.
