Manchester United youngster Tony Collyer reckons Casemiro is the real leader of the team. Casemiro, 32, has all the experience under his belt and has performed consistently for the Red Devils after moving from Real Madrid.
The Brazilian has scored five goals and has provided as many assists in 53 matches he has played in the Premier League in the last two seasons.
Collyer said there is a lot to learn from the defensive midfielder and he gets the best out of his teammates.
Speaking MUTV, Collyer said, “It’s so valuable, he’s one of the best ever in that position, it’s great for someone like myself to learn from him. Even just to watch him in training and have him next to me, talking to me and always helping me out, as well as the other lads. He’s a real leader in the team.”
When asked about his own performance against Arsenal in the pre-season, Collyer said, “I thought I had an okay game [against Arsenal]. There were things I could have done better but it’s great to experience a game like today and I can take it into the next game and even into training tomorrow.”
Manchester United suffered a 2-1 loss in Los Angeles against the Gunners despite Rasmus Højlund scoring in the 10th minute. Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli scored for Mikel Arteta’s team.
Meanwhile, in the last season, Casemiro was slammed by Jamie Carragher after his poor performance against Crystal Palace. However, the veteran had hit back, stating age doesn’t matter.
“I guess people end up talking about the age factor, but it’s been proven. Recently, our friend Thiago Silva, at the age of 39 coming here and showing that, yes, you can play. The previous Ballon d’Or winners were over 34. These are people who analyse football well, who see what’s happening, who know what’s happening, analysing not the age.”
“But I’m well, I’m happy, living every day I get to play here. As I usually say, Man United gave me what I wanted. This joy of being able to enjoy the game, enjoy the Premier League. So, I’m happy to be here at Man United and enjoying the game.”
Manchester United will next face Real Betis in the pre-season.
