ISL: I am looking to bounce back and hit my target this season – Jordan Murray

Jamshedpur’s FC new signing Jordan Murray wasn’t impressed with his own performances in the previous season of the Hero Indian Super League when he had played for Kerala Blasters. The Australian had netted seven goals for the Tuskers but the team had finished at 10th place in the standings.

The striker admitted that he wasn’t able to meet his own target in the previous season while playing for Kerala Blasters and he will aim to turn the tables when he will represent Jamshedpur FC in the coming season of the ISL. The Australian started in 14 matches and made a total of 19 appearances for the Blasters.

“To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with myself. I set myself a target every season and I didn’t meet what I wanted. So, I am looking to bounce back and hit my target this season,” he said on the latest episode of Football United.

“I will also look to involve other players, not just score goals. To bring other players into the game, it’s a big goal of mine. At the end of the day, if I wanted to play a single-man sport, I would play tennis or golf. So, for me it’s also about helping people around me to create success for them and then create success for myself,” he added.

The Aussie forward revealed that the reason to join Jamshedpur FC for the forthcoming season. The striker added that the club is striving for excellence and he wants to contribute to the team’s success.

“It’s a club that is striving for success. And they have got an abundance of great players. Owen Coyle is a fantastic coach. I have actually watched him when he was in the Premier League as well, which is unreal being a striker [in his playing days] and a great coach who has coached plenty of great players.”

Murray feels Jamshedpur FC has a potent squad and they will try to go all the way to clinch their maiden ISL title.

“They really have a tough squad. They also had a lot of injuries, which was very unfortunate for them [last season]. They are a tough side to the crackdown. They have made some good signings this season, some really good local Indian players as well. You can have only four foreigners on the field now, so it gives an extra chance for another Indian player to be on there which is unreal in the big scheme of things for Indian football,” he said.

“Get ready [addressing fans]. It’s going to be very exciting. The club is striving for success and that’s winning every game. I don’t go out to lose, I don’t go out to draw, I go out to win every game. I want to win the league, as simple as that.”

Jordan will wear jersey no.10 for Jamshedpur FC in the coming season.
