NorthEast United FC striker Alaeddine Ajaraie is optimistic that the Indian Super League will bring out the best out of him. The 31-year-old from Morocco has made a dream start in a league, scoring four goals and further assisting two more in four matches he has played for the Highlanders.
The Durand Cup champions have won one, drawn two and lost one match so far in the 11th season of the ISL.
“The club was interested in signing me last year too. Of course, Moroccan players are one of the reasons I came to NorthEast United FC. My friend Hamza Regragui encouraged and motivated me to join NorthEast United FC,” said Ajaraie in an interview with KhelNow.
The 31-year-old had also scored in the Durand Cup final against Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The forward said he is really focused and wants to deliver for the team and his teammates.
“I am fully focused on my work on the field and try to help my teammates, and it helps me get results in matches. No player can achieve anything on the field without the assistance of their teammates. As for the coach, he has full confidence in me, and that is the most important thing,” the forward stated.
The Moroccan said he was surprised with the level of football in the ISL and he is delighted to join the league.
“Frankly, I was surprised to see the high competition level and professionalism in the Indian Super League (ISL). I am happy to have joined the ISL, and it will only bring out the best in me,” he said.
“India is a beautiful country. The people are kind and respectful, and I will always reciprocate their affection. As a foreigner, anyone would want to feel at home, and I feel safe and at home here,” Ajaraie added.
NorthEast United FC will resume their ISL campaign against Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati on Thursday.
