It was an outstanding performance – Owen Coyle after thumping win against Jamshedpur FC

Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle was delighted after their thumping 5-1 win against Jamshedpur FC in the ongoing Indian Super League at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on Monday.

Pratik Chaudhari scored an own goal in the sixth minute to put Chennaiyin FC in front. Irfan Yadwad then doubled Marina Machans’ lead in the 22nd minute whereas Connor Shields strengthened his team’s grip on the match with a strike in the 24th minute.

Wilmar Jordan and Lukas Brambilla continued their good form for the Coyle’s team as they found the back of the net in the second half whereas Javi Hernandez scored one for Jamshedpur FC from a spot kick in the 81st minute.

The visitors came up with a dominating display as they took 10 shots on target against the home team.

“It was an outstanding performance. Jamshedpur FC were unbeaten at home this season and carried on the form with them. So we knew that it would be a difficult game but how we set about it from the first whistle, was outstanding. We probably should have been in front before we were. We had some wonderful chances, (we played) some terrific football. It was outstanding. We scored five goals tonight. We could probably have had nine or ten. Some of the chances we had were outstanding from the first whistle. But we’ve been showing that this season,” he said in the post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Irfan Yadwad impressed one and all as he scored a brilliant goal after making a spectacular run from the halfway line. Yadwad also provided two assists and Coyle showered praise on the 23-year-old youngster.

“Young Irfan scored an outstanding goal. He’s been threatening since day one and I’ve seen something in him, so I’ve persevered with him, tried to bring him on, encourage him and try to develop him. And he’s worked ever so hard for the team. Even when he has not scored, he has done a tremendous job for the team. And we people in the game see that, some others don’t and people will always question us in that. But with all due respect, let the people that know the game and coaches, let them judge players and know the best way to go about for the team,” the CFC head coach expressed.

This was Chennaiyin FC’s third win of the season and all of their three victories have come while playing away.

“We have now taken as many points this season away from home in those five games than we did the whole of last season. So that augurs well. Obviously we made the playoffs last year because we finished really strongly. So knowing how strong we always feel in the second half of the season, it is a nice spot to be in. We’ve got to continue to work hard, continue to kick on and if we perform like that we will win an awful lot of games in the ISL,” he said.

Chennaiyin FC will next take on defending champions Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Saturday.
