ATK Mohun Bagan striker Roy Krishna has revealed that winning the AFC Cup is going to be their target. The Mariners will face Sri Lankan club Blue Star FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday in the second preliminary round of the tournament and Krishna is excited to play in front of the home crowd.
The Fijian had a mixed Hero ISL 2021-22 season as he scored seven goals and provided four assists for the team. ATK Mohun Bagan lost by 3-2 on aggregate in the semifinals against Hyderabad FC.
Meanwhile, ATK Mohun Bagan will play in front of a home crowd after a long gap of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Krishna understands that there will be huge expectations from him and he promised to give his best to the team.
“I am excited to play in front of the fans who supported me throughout the season on Instagram, and Facebook. We have seen the excitement on television and on youtube, but we are now getting an opportunity to play in front of them. Anyhow, we need to win the match, I need to score. I am aware that everyone would be expecting me to score. I can assure that I will try my best,” said Roy Krishna, as reported by the ATK Mohun Bagan media team.
Krishna revealed that all the players have joined the team for the preparation and they look in good shape. The striker added their goal is to go all the way in the competition.
“Almost all the players have joined the camp, and they are in good shape. Winning the AFC Cup is our target. Foremost, we have to get past the group stage and even before that, the preliminary round matches. We are taking it one game at a time,” added the prolific striker.
If ATK Mohun Bagan manages to beat Blue Star FC, then they will face the winner of the other playoff clash between Abahani Limited Dhaka and Club Valencia of Maldives.
Subsequently, if they once again manage to win their third round, then they will be placed in Group D alongside Bashundhara Kings of Bangladesh, Maziya of the Maldives and Hero I-League champions Gokulam Kerala.
