Pablo Carreno Busta has taken giant strides in the last couple of seasons in the ATP tours. The Spaniard made it to the semi-finals of the US Open last year but lost to Alexander Zverev despite being two sets down. Busta has been a consistent performer in the recent past and has made a name for himself.
He won the clay tournament at Andalucia and also made it to the semi-finals of the recently concluded Barcelona Open, where he lost to eventual winner Rafael Nadal. Furthermore, Busta defeated a player like Diego Schwartzman, who is known for his potent game on clay.
Meanwhile, Pablo Carreno Busta has heaped praise on king of clay, Rafael Nadal. Nadal has a dominant game on clay courts and it is almost impossible to defeat him at his forte surface. Busta feels it is nigh impossible to beat Nadal at clay court.
Speaking about Nadal’s clay-court skills, Carreno Busta said, “Even if he’s not at his best, because he’s been very, very tall and it’s not easy to keep hitting at him or get it back. Especially on clay, he is the best player there is right now, and he’s ever been in tennis history.”
Busta added one has to enter with a positive frame of mind against Nadal on clay court and hope that he isn’t at his best on that particular day.
“It’s very difficult to play against him. You must be very clear about the weapons and come to the match thinking that you can hurt him and hope that he is not at his best level. He’s a favorite at all clay-court tournaments.”, Carreno Busta continued.
Rafael Nadal has an unprecedented record of 445-40 on clay courts and he is one of the best players the game has ever seen. The lefty will be gunning for his 14th French Open title and his overall 21st slam of his glorious career.
