Rafael Nadal and the clay courts are in themselves a successful love story. Nadal has mostly dominated on the clay courts and he is rightly known as the ‘King of clay’. The World No. 2 won his 13th Roland Garros in 2020 and made history by becoming the player with most number of singles titles at a single tournament.
In fact, the finals against Novak Djokovic was Nadal’s 100th win at the French Open as he has a 100-2 record in Paris. This was Nadal’s 20th major title as he also equalled Roger Federer’s tally. It is almost impossible to defeat Nadal at clay courts as he has a solid game.
Furthermore, the Spaniard has a 60–8 record in clay court tournament finals and has lost only twice in best-of-five-set matches on clay. Moreover, he has 11 Monte-Carlo Masters, 11 Barcelona Open, and nine Rome Masters on a clay court.
Thus, Nadal is a force to reckon with on clay courts and he is lethal. Meanwhile, Greece Tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas joked that Rafael Nadal should be banned from the French Open if he had the power to ban one thing for life while answering a fan question on Twitter.
The Greek wrote, “Rafa playing at the French.”
On the other hand, Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas have faced each other on seven occasions in which the Spaniard has had his wood on the youngster. The 34-year legend has won six matches whereas the 22-year old has won a solitary contest.
Both of them had last locked horns with each other in the ATP Finals in which Nadal won in the round robin game. Tsitsipas will be up against Nadal in the ATP Cup, which will take place at Melbourne Park just prior to the Australian Open. The AO will begin from February 8.
