Indian captain Rohit Sharma believes every coach has their own style after Gautam Gambhir took over the coaching baton from former coach Rahul Dravid. Gambhir is known to be more aggressive whereas Dravid had a calm approach.
The current head coach is known to take the bull by its horns and will look to get the best out of the players. Gambhir also played an instrumental role in taking Kolkata Knight Riders to glory in IPL 2024 as a mentor.
Under Gambhir, India won their first T20I series against Sri Lanka by 3-0 but suffered a 2-0 loss in the ODI series.
Rohit Sharma said in the press conference, “The staff is new, but I know both Gautam Gambhir and Abhishek Nayar. I have played quite a bit of cricket against Morne Morkel; we’ve played some tough cricket against each other. I’ve also played, maybe a couple of games, against Ryan but the two of us haven’t spoken as much before. From what I experienced with him in Sri Lanka, I think he has a sensible and understanding personality.”
Rohit also shares a close bond with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and feels the current coaching staff has a different style as compared to previous think tank.
“As for Gambhir and Nayar, like I said, I know them well. Everyone has their own style. Rahul [Dravid] bhai, Vikram Rathour, [and] Paras Mhambrey – they had a different way of running the team, [while] these guys will have a different style. So it’s important for you to adjust. So far, there have been no problems or issues as a player. Like I said, if there is understanding between both [coaches and players], that’s the most important thing. And we have a good understanding,” Rohit added.
Rohit will look to lead from the front and get the job done against the Tigers.
The opening Test match between India and Bangladesh will be played at the Chepauk Stadium, Chennai from September 19.
