In a massive blow to the Indian team, their gun-fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia. Bumrah’s participation in the T20I showpiece was hanging by a thin thread after he was ruled out of the series against South Africa due to a back injury.
The ace paceman was ruled out of the Asia Cup due to the same injury and then returned to action in the three-match series against Australia. Bumrah didn’t play in the first game while he played in the next two matches, bowling a total of six overs.
However, the right-arm fast bowler was ruled out of the first T20I against South Africa and then the rest of the series. The BCCI is yet to name a replacement for Bumrah. Earlier, India lost the services of Ravindra Jadeja due to a knee injury.
The BCCI said in a statement on Monday, “The BCCI Medical team has ruled out Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists. Bumrah was initially ruled out from the ongoing Mastercard 3-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury. The BCCI will be naming a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament soon.”
In the absence of Bumrah, the bowling will rest on the shoulders of Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. However, India’s bowling has been a concern in the recent past.
Bumrah was gutted to miss out on the flight to Australia as he wrote on his Twitter post, “I am gutted that I won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care, and support I’ve received from my loved ones. As I recover, I’ll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia ??.”
