‘The only thing is the self-belief’ – Shashank Singh reflects on reason for success in IPL 2024

    April 10, 2024

Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh feels self-belief and hard work at the domestic circuit has helped him find success in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Singh grabbed headlines when he scored an unbeaten knock of 61 runs off just 29 balls against Gujarat Titans and led his team to a three-wicket win.

The right-hander continued his good form as he smashed another fine knock of 46 runs off just 25 balls against Sunrirsers Hyderabad in Chandigarh on Tuesday. The 32-year-old scored six fours and one six but his efforts went in vain as PBKS lost by two runs.

“The only thing is self-belief. Like the way we played in domestic cricket. Like you see Nitish here. He scored usually and took wickets in white-ball and red-ball both. Ashutosh you see that he did very well in the Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare trophy. But the others who are coming in, like Angkrish from KKR,” Shashank said in the post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Ashutosh Sharma also impressed in his second match as he scored 33 off 15 balls. Moreover, Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a match-winning knock of 64 runs. Singh added all of these players have performed consistently at the domestic circuit.

“So the players who are coming in, yes may be unknown here, but they are known players in the domestic circuit. We play domestically and they are doing very well. So it is the reward for that. Whatever you do domestically, you continue doing the same here.” he further continued.

“That performance brings you here. Cricket is a game of self-belief. I think at this level, whatever you perform, you bring confidence and self-belief here and then you do well here. Obviously, luck is a part, but then that self-relief confidence is always there,” Shashank concluded.

Punjab Kings will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the same venue of Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Saturday.
