Mohun Bagan Super Giant captain Subhasish Bose reckons the team has the ability to bounce back during difficult times. The Mariners defeated Mumbai City FC in the last league stage match to be crowned as the League Shield Champions.
Subsequently, the defending champions defeated Odisha FC in the semifinal by 3-2 on aggregate to set up the final date against the Islanders. MBSG lost the first-leg semifinal by 2-1 against the Kalinga Warriors but bounced back to win the second leg by 2-0.
Bose, who plays as a defender, has scored a solitary goal in the 24 matches he has played in the ongoing season for the club. The MBSG captain lauded the character of his teammates to fight it out at crucial stages in big matches.
Bose stated in an interview with indiansuperleague.com, “We made a very good comeback (against Odisha FC). Mohun Bagan SG always bounce back during difficult times. I want to thank all my players for winning this match in front of the fans at our home ground to reach the final.”
Earlier in the season, Mohun Bagan Super Giant won the Durand Cup and also lifted their maiden League Shield trophy. Bose said his team have set their eye on the treble.
Speaking in this context, he said: “It’s not that we are only motivated to win the treble. The ultimate result of the hard work we put in throughout the season is just ahead of us. We will try to win the (final) match to win the ISL Cup.”
Bose said his team wants to go all the way and defend their title. The MBSG captain is also proud of his players for the fight they have put in.
“We’ll try to win the final. I also said in Odisha that our team could come back. And we have done this,” he stated.
“As a captain, I feel proud of this team. Now we have one game left, and I want to win the final in front of our home crowd,” the defender added.
The ISL final will be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Kriranangan Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday.
