Kolkata Thunderbolts will lock horns against Calicut Heroes in the second semifinal of the ongoing Prime Volleyball League at the Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad on Friday.
Kolkata Thunderbolts finished at second place in the standings after they defeated Kochi Blue Spikers by 3-2 on Wednesday.
Kolkata won four out of their six league stage matches and had eight points under their bag. Thus, Kolkata will look to continue their good show in the semifinal.
On the other hand, Calicut Heroes finished at third place in the standings as they won three matches out of the six they played. Calicut finished with six points in the table and they will need to be at their best against Kolkata. Calicut Heroes had won their last match against Hyderabad Black Hawks by 5-0 and that win must have given them a lot of confidence.
When these two teams had met earlier in the season, Kolkata Thunderbolts had beaten Calicut Heroes by 3-2.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Thunderbolts head coach Sunny Joseph said after the team’s win against Kochi Blue Spikers, “I feel very happy, the first time I am with a professional team. We will take on Calicut Heroes [in the semifinal) and we are fully prepared to go into the final”.
Prediction: Kolkata Thunderbolts will enter the contest as slightly favorites against Calicut Heroes.
